Fixed Rate Remortgages

A fixed interest rate mortgage or remortgage is one of many interest rate types available.  With this type of mortgage you know that whatever happens to interest rates, your monthly payments will stay the same for the fixed rate period.

Rates can be fixed for a variety of terms; two years, five years and ten years are typical examples.  You should bear in mind that with a fixed rate mortgage you will not benefit from any falls in interest rates during the fixed rate period.  At the end of that period your payments will generally revert to the lender's standard variable rate (SVR).

Fixed rate mortgages are very popular with customers whose income and outgoings do not tend to fluctuate.  For a given period you will know exactly how much you will be paying each month so helping you to stick to your budget.  They will also protect you against rising interest rates.

Fixed rate mortgages often have an Early Repayment Charge. The amount charged will vary from lender to lender but this is normally only payable if you redeem your mortgage during the fixed rate period.  Be aware that some fixed rate mortgages do have Early Repayment Charges beyond this period.
